Acts 2:46-47; 5:42
“Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved… Every day in the temple, and in various homes, they continued teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.”
We kicked off our very first Sunday morning service this month on Easter! Just like the Church in Acts, we are meeting together on the weekend and midweek in our homes. By the end of April, we will have ¼ of our team on the ground here in Fayetteville!
As more of the team trickles in we are trusting that God will use our love for Him, each other, our neighbors, and co-workers as the avenue for sharing the Gospel Message of Jesus Christ. We know there are people in this city who need to know that God loves them and that Jesus did something to change their entire life!
• Jesus Saves •
My life before Jesus was bleak and pathetic, to be frank. I was unhappy; nothing I did or dreamt about satisfied my deepest longings and desires. I tried getting drunk every weekend, I tried sleeping with women, I tried funny twitter posts and cool guitar licks.
Nothing worked. I used to go to bed thinking, “I hope this isn’t all I have to look forward to”. I was bitter; people always bragged about a Jesus that “saves”. I thought Jesus was just a cool dude or a good example. What did he need to save me from? Why did He let nasty dudes beat, torture, and crucify Him if He was the Son of God? If it were me, I’d come down from that stupid cross and smite everybody, but He didn’t. Why?
I realized I needed Jesus when I discovered that I was an enemy of God. My life, my heart, and my desires were in direct opposition to Him the day I was born. So, Jesus willingly let those nasty dudes beat, torture, and crucify Him for me! He did it to pay for my sins and rescue me from myself and from an eternity spent in hell. Sin is a slap to the face of God; all of us have disregarded Him and have done our own thing. There is no way to repay Him with our wit, good deeds, or well-thought-out arguments.
He only gives us one way out. God loved the world (you and I) so much He gave His son Jesus to live, die, and rise again to save anyone that believes in Him. He could’ve easily come in a band of angels and destroyed everyone, including the nasty dudes previously mentioned, but He didn’t.
Today, I am assured that God is totally in charge of my life; from today to eternity. I get to live knowing that because of what Jesus did, on my behalf, I get to call myself a child of God. I won’t be condemned to hell for my sin because Jesus willingly stood in my place. Jesus saves.
A Word From the Pastors
Thank you so much for partnering with us in building the Kingdom of God in Fayetteville through your prayer and financial gifts. Our whole church plant team includes you and your efforts in the Gospel right where you live, as well as your prayers and financial gifts to us.
Alex and I wanted to take a minute to ask you to pray the following for our team this month:
- The rest of the team would find jobs and homes.
- The portion of the team that is here would really love our neighbors and coworkers.
- People would respond to the Gospel, be baptized, and join our community.
- Our team would be unified in our love for God and people.
Building Lives Centered on the Gospel,
Alex and Cody
